Emmaus is a non-profit organization set up to provide skills, training, enterprise and personal development services for young people in Sierra Leone, West Africa. It was created to tackle the chronic poverty and unemployment among young people. Ten years of brutal civil war left three quarters of the country devastated. Over 50% of the country’s potential work force (who are mostly young people are unemployed, a significant number of which are ex-child soldiers with little or no education. The Locust Valley Rotary has adopted Emmaus as their international project and is now working in conjunction to help build and establish a center for the young people of Sierra Leone.
On June 7, 2008 there will be a container at Thomas Park in Locust Valley. We are asking for you to help us in donating any of the following items listed below which will be shipped over to Sierra Leone. These items will be used to continue the building of the center and for the people. This will benefit an entire community for generations to come. Anything you can kindly give (used, new or money given towards buying items) will be appreciated.
